JAZZ PHOTOGRAPHY: BETWEEN DECEPTION AND MYSTERY
Cycle of two talks on photography and jazz
with Luca Bragalini
In this first talk, the stereotypes on which jazz photography is based will be illuminated, in a journey through the smoke of music clubs and the syncopated scenes of ensemble images from the Roaring Twenties. A journey backwards that will take us to the first photo in the history of jazz. A shot that is an enigma that enthusiasts and insiders have been struggling with for 80 years, a puzzle whose solution will be revealed at the end of the talk.
At the end of the talk, the award-winning pianist Rossano Sportiello, one of the internationally most appreciated masters of traditional jazz piano, will perform in concert. His sounds echo the influences of Fats Waller, James P. Johnson and Willie ‘The Lion’ Smith. His virtuosity and strong passion make him almost unique in the jazz piano scene. His mentor and friend, jazz legend Barry Harris, called him “the best stride pianist” he had ever heard.

In the small town where Ted lives, everything is fake and there is no vegetation. Standing in the way of his mission is the local tycoon, the ruthless industrialist who supplies the town with bottled oxygen and has no interest in the return of chlorophyll photosynthesis.

FOOD, INC.
Robert Kenner, USA, 2008, 94′, o.v. with Italian subtitles
– documentary
A ruthless analysis of the US large multinational food production industry that controls the market since the 1950s. These business giants are increasingly less ethical and profit-driven and have promoted the spread of fast food and low-cost food. This system, which has allowed a portion of the population to access nutrient-rich and calorie-dense foods, presents, however, disturbing flip sides: the spread of diseases in livestock, inhumane treatment of animals, severe pollution, worsening working conditions for employees, and small-scale producers.
