RAED YASSIN
Ghost Karaoke
Memory is the leitmotif in this exhibition, in which the artist recalls the time when he was still a child, singing with his mother at religious festivals near Beirut, Lebanon. Karaoke acts here as both a narrative and an elaboration of past events. Play, memory, tradition, family relationships and loss are interwoven in his works and into the itinerary of the entire exhibition, which starts with Yassin’s individual experience and expands to include an in-depth analysis of the mediums used to track it.

BIOGRAPHY
Raed Yassin (born 1979, Beirut) is an artist and musician living between Berlin and Beirut. He graduated from the theater department at the Institute of Fine Arts in Beirut in 2003, and since then has developed his conceptual practice through multiple media such as video, sound, photography, text, sculpture and performance. Yassin’s work often originates from an examination of his personal narratives and their position within a collective history, through the lens of consumer culture and mass production. He was a resident artist at De Ateliers, Amsterdam (2008-2010), the Delfina Foundation, London (2010 & 2014), Akademie der Künste der Welt, Cologne (2015), and is a recipient of the Abraaj Group Art Prize (2012). As a musician, he is one of the organizers of the Irtijal Festival for Experimental Music (Beirut), and has released several solo music albums, as well as part of groups such as “A” Trio and PRAED. In 2009, he founded his independent music label, Annihaya.

Among the most significant buildings of the late sixteenth century in Bologna, Palazzo Vizzani was built between 1559 and 1566 upon the initiative of Elisabetta Bianchini, widow of Camillo Vizzani. It was then expanded in the second half of the 18th century by Cardinal Lambertini, the future Pope Benedict XIV. The interior, richly decorated, houses important works: the paintings Giano Bifronte and Saturno, probably by Orazio Samacchini, the allegories of Glory and Fame by Lorenzo Sabbatini, the frieze with the 14 scenes of the Life of Ciro di Pellegrino Tibaldi, The Deeds of Alexander the Great by Tommaso Laureti, the Rape of the Sabines by Felice Giani. Today the palace houses the activities of the cultural association Alchemilla, which supports research and experimentation in the artistic field.
